Study Description: The purpose of this clinical study is to see if the investigational drug is effective at helping to reduce symptoms of irritability associated with autism spectrum disorder in children. The study medication is currently FDA approved to treat several other psychiatric conditions in adults and is being tested as a potential new psychiatric therapy option for children with autism spectrum disorder. You and your child may be asked to attend at least one screening visit to determine if your child is eligible to enroll in the study. If enrolled, your child will receive either the drug being tested in this study or a placebo to be taken once daily for 2 months. Total participation will last approximately 5 months and you and your child will be asked to attend 9 office visits. During these visits, your child will complete various assessments and laboratory tests. Participants who qualify for the study will receive trial-related procedures and study medication at no cost and may be compensated for time and travel.
