BRAND

In 1916, master perfumers created a new fragrance in a small laboratory in Parma. Compared to the then popular perfumes of German origin, it was unusually fresh, intense, and modern. Colonia - the first truly Italian eau de cologne, had been born. Made by Acqua di Parma from natural ingredients, to this day, its composition has never changed. This iconic scent, in its art deco bottle, is as well loved today as it was in the 1930s when it became the perfume of the era. In the 50s, Hollywood stars travelled to Italy and discovered Colonia, and by the 60s, Acqua di Parma was an exclusive perfume house.

In 1993, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Diego Della Valle, and Paolo Borgomanero, all successful Italian entrepeneurs, invested in Acqua di Parma to safeguard this Italian tradition. Growth was rapid, with the first boutique opening in Milan in 1998. From there, the brand featured in the world’s most exclusive stores. Colonia’s success led to the launch of a wide range of Acqua di Parma products, all true to their roots in Italian sophistication. New interpretations of Colonia were launched, and new products emerged like Profumo and Blu Mediterraneo.

Acqua di Parma became a successful lifestyle brand, and in 2001, LVMH bought into it, enhancing its international appeal and bringing its values to new lines and products. A new feminine collection was introduced (Le Nobili) and Blu Mediterraneo increased its range. In 2008, Acqua di Parma diversified into luxury health spas. Meanwhile, all products continue to be made strictly in Italy.

VALUES

Acqua di Parma is the expression of Italian savoir vivre and savoir faire. Values of quality, creativity, elegance and exclusiveness underpin its style. A rigorous selection of materials and prestige handcrafting ensure quality, whilst creativity brings new forms to this timeless classic. Acqua di Parma products are exclusive and unique in how they celebrate the very essence of beauty. They express a discreet luxury, ever personal, that embraces both the traditional and the contemporary.

Luxury is defined by subtle details, perfect materials, impeccable manufacturing, handcrafted finishes, and centuries of tradition embodied in contemporary designs. Acqua di Parma products are made with the same dedication and expertise that earned them their initial success, and fragrances are made with the most prestigious essences and extracts. The iconic art deco bottle is still made by master glassmakers, and it retains its hallmark bakelite black stopper.

Products are still put together by hand. The unmistakeable Acqua di Parma "hatboxes" are made by artisans and hand-embossed with the Parma royal seal. Even the scented candles are entirely hand made by Italian craftsmen. The same care is lavished on shaving accessories and leather goods, with exquisite stitching, prestige materials, and sophisticated detailing and finishes.
